On Saturday I had the privilege and pleasure of volunteering for Operation 300 by taking gold star kids sailing. Local Navy Seal Aaron Vaughn was killed in action in 2011 and his widow and sister started this great organization in his honor. It gives the mothers a day off while hosting adventure camps for children who have lost their fathers as a result of military service, pairing each child with a father-aged, male mentor who spends the weekend doing things with the children they might have done with their dad.
Although I’ve volunteered twice before, this time, the mentor on my boat was an active duty seal. I was awed by his calm and caring manner, his strength, and his confidence. We are so lucky to have men and women like him willing to risk it all to defend our country. Please consider supporting the worthwhile 501(c)3 not for profit organization in any way you can. http://www.operation300.com/
