I had a good friend who’s dad owned a charter boat in the British Virgin Islands (BVI’s). He always talked about how great the sailing and the islands were there. Deciding to dive in, we took a learn to bareboat class there. For those who don’t know, bareboat refers to renting a boat without a captain or crew, you sail it yourself. We chartered once and the were hooked. We bought a Beneteau 432 and kept it in the BVI’s for a number of years. The Moorings let you trade your time on your boat for a similar boat in other islands. In addition to sailing the BVI’s, we sailed out of the base in St. Martin where we sailed to St. Barts, St. Kitts, and Nevis. Next we ventured to St. Lucia, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Le Saintes, Grenada, and even the Greek Islands.
